Taxes are the means by which governments fund the governance and protection of a nation.

Although taxes are generally accepted as lawful, fair (in a democracy, that is) and necessary for the lawful protection of a nation and it's peoples, many protections and oversights are necessary in order to ensure continued efficacy of the system and freedom from corruption and misuse (malfeasance) of the taxes collected.

There are dangers involved in taxes, particularly in the long term, due to the ability of corruption to infiltrate government, government institutions, and the essential components of the state such as police force's military, judiciary and legal, and health and social care and welfare.

The state of the now deeply and broadly corrupted United Kingdom is a case in point:
